Wearbest Generates Meyer Brand Velvet

October 22, 2007

GARFIELD, New Jersey—Wearbest Sil-Tex Mills inc. is commission-weaving a new proprietary 'Meyer' velvet line in Turkey according to Irwin Gasner, principal of Wearbest.

The arrangement with the Turkish mill enables Wearbest to produce the velvets on Vandeweile velvet looms to its own standards and specifications without actually owning the looms.

The existing Wearbest equipment is used to produce its core line which is the majority of its business today including Bella Dura® and Bella Dura® Plush indoor/outdoor performance fabrics. These lines have doubled their sales in the last year, Gasner added. Furthermore, Bella Dura Plush, a chenille version of Bella Dura, is now certified to meet all IMO standards and has been successfully sold to the cruise ship industry by Wearbest's jobber customers, Gasner confirmed.

The Meyer line has already started previews in New York to jobbers with the official launch coming at Showtime USA to the furniture industry in December.

The collection of 40 designs in nine colors and viscose polyester blends and viscose pile is named after Gasner's father, the founder of Wearbest who passed away in 1989. "Many designs originated in Meyer Gasner's time,'' he said.

Originally, Wearbest produced a line of Bemberg linings for the apparel trade. "Every design will be proprietary for each of our jobber customers. All are available with FR topical treatment for contract applications and many fabrics pass contract abrasion tests,'' Gasner said. The striae warps used in the velvet collection are the forerunner to Wearbest's next silk collection, he said. The silk collection begins in the high teens through the $20 price point, he said.

In reference to his inspiration for creating a velvet line at this time, Gasner said he had seen "many mills that were making chenille that looked live velvet so I decided to make velvet. These velvet designs emulate our designs in silk," Gasner said. Meyer is priced at $17.95 to the jobber.
