Tietex Asia Innovates First Wide Width Velvet
October 7, 2009
BRUSSELS, Belgium - Tietex Asia has developed an innovative wide width velvet in 290 cm. for curtains through its Chonburi, Thailand-based mill.
"This is the first wide width velvet ever made in the world," boasted Dirk Hagemeijer, the Holland based sales director for Tietex Asia. "Prior to this time, it was impossible to make wide width velvet because there was never a loom wide enough to make it before. We are using a unique microstitch technology that is proprietary to us alone at Tietex. It does not use traditional weaving methods like a Vandewiele velvet loom."
"The new velvet also reduces cut and trim work in making the finished curtains because there are now no fabric pieces joined together to make the curtain. It is one piece and therefore saves labor cost to the curtain maker," Hagemeijer said.
The product sells for $13 FOB and was presented for the first time at MoOD. It is available in a 24 color plain, 20 hues in a mélange design and myriad custom colors.
