Therapedic Bedding Co. Announces FR Guarantee
June 26, 2007
PRINCETON, New Jersey – According to Gerry Borreggine, president and CEO of Therapedic, the bedding company has recently become the first bedding producer to have a guarantee that protects retailers selling its fire-resistant bedding against fines or penalties.
Borreggine said the company will reimburse any retailer who is cited for selling a non-compliant product that is manufactured by Therapedic after July 1 for the full fine or penalty levied against that dealer. According to Borreggine, the offer is the first of its kind by any major bedding producer.
Therapedic decided to take this measure partly in response to the federal open-flame mattress flammability standard that will take effect on the first of next month. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has said that after that date, retailers selling non-compliant sleep sets will face the prospect of fines.
Also in response to this new standard and stricter guidelines, Therapedic has unveiled a four-point education program targeted to the retail community which involves a six-page booklet that explains the law, regulations and responsibilities of each segment of the industry in complying with regulations. The company plans to make its FR educational materials available to all retailers who request it, whether they sell Therapedic products or not.
