Spandauer Earns Crypton® Europe License
August 27, 2004
WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI—-Hi-Tex Corp., owner of the Crypton brand has awarded its first European licensing agreement to Spandauer Velours based in Lichtenstein, Germany.
Hi-Tex Corporation is a privately held company dedicated to creating and promoting usable technological advancements in the textile industry. Crypton has sold 25 million yards since it was introduced 10 years ago, the company said.
Spandauer with sales reportedly in the 45 million euro range, is known for producing better quality velvets, flocks and woven fabrics.
With its patented process, a Crypton spokesman says it is the only textile that is stain, liquid, odor, and bacteria resistant. Not a topical treatment, Crypton is integrated into every fiber of the fabric making it impenetrable to stains, odor and bacteria, the company stated.
This partnership marks Crypton's official entrance into the European marketplace, "an area of extreme growth for Crypton," the company said. Under this agreement, Spandauer is now the exclusive European manufacturer and distributor of Crypton.
"We have always seen the European market as an incredible opportunity to expand our brand," says Randy Rubin, co-founder of Crypton with her husband Craig. "We have been researching possible European partnerships for years and knew we had met our match with Spandauer. Their manufacturing facility is amazing – technologically advanced and ready to accommodate our detailed and complex manufacturing process. In addition, they are entrepreneurial and nimble, like us. We see this as a fantastic partnership," she said.
Rubin said the culture of Spandauer is very similar to her company culture. Just like Crypton, Spandauer continually invests in expansion and modernization, she pointed out. In order to update their plants to manufacture Crypton, Spandauer invested over 2 million Euros in state-of-the-art equipment.
"I am well aware of the excellent reputation of Crypton," said Guenther Walter Managing Director for Spandauer. He expects to "dramatically increase Crypton's presence in Europe. In order to maximize this opportunity, we have installed new equipment which enables us to produce an incredibly soft, yet strong product. We will be showing the world the softer side of Crypton."
The new line installed by Spandauer, which is 75 meters, is integrated into its main line and is designed to recycle air and heat. Spandauer said all chemicals are recycled with no effluent discharge into the environment, making its green policies consistent with Crypton's Green Manufacturing Standards. The Spandauer plant is ISO approved and has been QM certified since 1994. In addition, the plant was recently certified according to the new DIN EN ISO 9001:2000. Spandauer says its new Crypton fabric collection passes Europe's stringent fire codes as well as Crib V tests.
