Peter D'Ascoli Launches D'Ascoli & Company

December 7, 2005

NEW YORK, New York — Peter D'Ascoli has launched a company under his own name, D'Ascoli & Company.

The company plans to benefit from D'Ascoli's twenty years of textile, furniture, bedding, wall covering, floor covering, lighting and packaging experience to create a design and marketing firm.

The company will have offices in New York, Paris and New Delhi, India.

D'Ascoli hopes that the company will assist with the sourcing process, by matching up designers, manufacturers and distributors worldwide.

"My core competence lies in understanding markets and transforming commodities through the application of appropriate aesthetics. Although D'Ascoli & Company will offer sourcing and quality assurance services, it is not a sourcing company or a buying agency. D'Ascoli & Company will offer strategic planning and creative solutions," said D'Ascoli. "With a specialization in textiles, we will look to develop every product category, price point, and geographic territory, as well as developing brands—both private label and our own."

D'Ascoli is creating a fully staffed Design Studio in New Delhi, which will feature state of-the-art CAD facilities to execute design and product development projects in China, Pakistan, India, Turkey, and Europe.

"In a world that has been 'flattened' by technology and free trade, the fundamental way that products are developed, supplied, and distributed has changed. This new venture reflects the depth of this change and will offer solutions to challenges facing both suppliers and consumers of home products," D'Ascoli said.

He continued: "The decision to locate the Studio in Delhi reflects both the reality of Asia's dominance in manufacturing and the richness of the Indian culture. I have always believed that good design begins with a technical understanding of the manufacturing process and its relation to cost. Being close to the factories is very important, and Delhi, with its well educated talent pool, central location, and inspirational environment, make it ideal as a creative hub for Asia.''

Until last April, D'Ascoli was the co-vice president of creative services at the New York-based decorative fabric converter Covington Industries. In his five years there, he helped shift their pre-dominantly domestic supply base to a global one.

D'Ascoli & Company's first effort, a bedding collection, will be the product of DiAscoli's relationship with the Gulistan Group, a textile spinner, weaver, and manufacturer of apparel and home fashions in Pakistan.

According to D'Ascoli, the company will showcase the collection under the DANDY VILLA D'ASCOLI label, as well as seek to partner with customers to develop custom and private brands.

"The collection features three ensembles made with 100% cotton T-210 coordinated prints, yarn dyes, and solid color piece-dyed fabrics and is intended as a way of introducing Gulistan to the Home Fashions market by displaying the company's newest manufacturing capabilities," said D'Ascoli.

"We have been spinners and weavers for many years" said Gulistan Group company director Kashif Shakoor. "Our yarn dying has been operational for three years, and our finished goods facilities are new and just beginning to function. In the past year Gulistan has already supplied packaged sheets to some of the biggest names in the business through local buying offices. We are working with Peter on this collection to demonstrate to the market that we are capable of putting together complex ensembles as a 'one-stop-shop,' and we are very excited by the results so far."
