Lodovico Rossini Re-invents Itself in India
April 21, 2009
COSTAMAGNAGA, Italy - Lodovico Rossini, a well known Italian weaver with 80 years of production behind it, has restructured itself with a new weaving mill in India and a new name, Tessitura Eredi Lodovico Rossini or 'Telor.'
Tom Solimine, with over 30 years in the industry as a designer, sales and marketing professional is the former vice president of upholstery at Swavelle, an American converter. He is now leading this effort at Telor to "add value," he said. Telor with this effort is attempting to restore the European design and fashion spirit "which was lost when our industry headed to China," he said. "The value story in China was hard to resist but the Italian creativity and product expertise has slowly faded away," he said.
The first USA directed collections will launch during Proposte in Como May 6-8.
"We will have 20 new collections ready consisting of coordinated groups of featured jacquards, stripes, minis and many new exciting textures at different prices levels suitable to satisfy any customers' request," he said.
Franco Rossini is the operating owner of the mill in India as well as the owner of the Italian mill. Telor will still make product for the Europe and Italian markets at the local Italian mill. "The Indian collections are exclusively for the American market. The price levels of the new line will be in the moderate price level for American converters and wholesalers," Solimine said. "The mill will not sell to the American furniture trade on a direct basis," he added.
As a result of the Indian effort, Solimine expects that Telor will again begin to emerge in the USA as an important supplier. The new collections will be shown at the Telor exhibition stand at Proposte
"Lodovico Rossini has long been a quality producer and supplier of decorative upholstery fabrics to the USA market with a stellar reputation for design and service." Solimine has done business with the forerunner to Telor since the mid 1980's.
"Our goal and objective is to re establish the Euro fashion story by utilizing Italian design, weaving, finishing and creativity, but now also incorporating the value of Indian manufacturing and costing," Solimine said.
Solimine says he is developing samples at Telor from Indian made yarns which he says have been have been crafted and fine tuned in Italy. Once the sample is correct, Telor supervises the production in India with exact matching, Solimine said, "all under the control of the Italian team."
Solimine said that Telor has taken every measure to ensure that its own new Indian production will meet the very high Italian standards of quality, consistency and delivery in order to uphold its strong reputation to the USA customer base. Key Indian personnel were trained by the Italian team, headed by Franco Rossini at Telor, to instill the methods and knowledge needed to build quality products that had become a Lodovico Rossini trademark. "Even the special Italian finishing compound recipe will be duplicated in the Indian mill." Solimine added.
Solimine will work very closely with the Telor design team, headed by Magda Rossini, in providing concepts, constructions and colors for the USA Collections. Solimine will also head the sales and marketing efforts to the U.S. based converters and wholesalers, Solimine will be supported by the Telor commercial manager Silvana Alzati to keep continuity of the usual great service given throughout the years.
