Henry Lazarus, 62
February 3, 2005
NEW YORK, New York — Henry Lazarus died in his sleep at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada early Saturday morning on January 29 at the age of 62.
Funeral services will be held in Woodmere, New York during the weekend of February 4. Lazarus was born July 21, 1942 in Far Rockaway, New York where he spent his early years.
He is survived by his two children, Jason and Jennifer. He also leaves behind a sister, Barbara Siskin; a brother, David Lazarus and a sister-in-law, David's wife Heather; a grand-daughter Emily, Jason's daughter.
Lazarus spent his whole life in different aspects of the home textiles and fabrics business. It may have been in his blood since his father was the founder of M.H. Lazarus, a fabric jobber in the U.S. that was eventually sold to a competitor.
Lazarus moved from New York to Beverly Hills, California and then on to Las Vegas about 10 years ago. He is well known to the hospitality industry, the trade he was part of for at least 40 years.
At some point, Lazarus took a sabbatical from the hospitality industry to become more involved with Rock 'N Roll and the music industry. He became a promoter and a manager of various rock groups before he returned to the hospitality trade.
Lazarus joined Charles Samelson Inc. on November 1, 1992 and has been a key person in sales management for that company ever since. He was vice president of sales and special projects as a fulltime employee.
"'Laz' had unbelievable energy," says Mark Teppel, a principal of Samelson Chatelane. "He did a fabulous job in developing sales for Samelson in Las Vegas and Hawaii. Prior to working for us, he was also very successful. He did a lot of work for Hilton and Hyatt and was personal friends with many people in the hotel industry."
"Henry was a vibrant person and a vital part of our company," says Gerry Kane, also a principal of the firm. "He was like family to us."
A broadly distributed email from a spokesman in the Las Vegas Chapter of NEWH said that Henry Lazarus "exuded life."
