Fastnet Asia Consulting Guides Western Companies Doing Business in China

January 8, 2000

Brussels - Former Tessilforum director Edoardo Caminita and Andrew S. H. Young have opened a consulting firm called Fastnet Asia Limited. Young and Caminita draw on their combined experience to offer business advice to Western companies who are interested in doing business in China. ''Andrew has been working in the field for more than 20 years, and I have a very good knowledge of the textile problem and the realities of Western Countries,'' Caminita said. ''In Western countries, labor costs are high. We find a company that does handwork in China and does distribution.

''We suggest to customers how to organize, arrange showrooms, how to teach showroom personnel, how to dress and how to talk,'' said Caminita.

By conducting preliminary research, Fastnet Asia limits the possibility of getting clients into bad business relationships. ''We follow companies to see which are good opportunities,'' Caminita said. ''We give guarantees of customer credibility.''

The firm also screens companies seeking its services. ''When someone wants to join, we make a small marketing report to see if our services are for them,'' said Caminita. ''We visit to see what they produce and do an analysis of their business.''

After the consultancy the firm stays in continuous contact with the supplier and the company. ''Our philosophy is to be part of the company who works with us,'' said Caminita. F&FI
