De Kort Makes Speedy Recovery

January 3, 2007

NEW YORK, New York — Cornelius de Kort, known to his friends simply as 'Cor' is back home recuperating in the Netherlands after suffering a stroke on November 2 while he was on a sales trip in New York City.

The stroke affected his speech. He was initially hospitalized for about a week at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City.

De Kort is one of the major textile players in the world market having owned shares at one time or another in several companies, including the Dutch wholesaler Kobe and the Dutch velvet producer Raymakers, which he sold in the past few years. De Kort is now a principal and consultant in DeBall velvets of Montreal, Canada and Dekortex, an upstate New York wholesaler and converter.

"It got the left side of his brain, which is responsible for speech and memory. I must say it was pretty scary at first, but then Cornelius pulled through to make a very fast and good recovery. Even the doctors were amazed at his progress. As soon as he was released from the hospital he returned to Holland and we spent the holidays with the family," said Cor's son Neill de Kort, president of Bernard Reyn, the Dutch fabric wholesaler.

Neill said his father plans to attend Heimtextil in Frankfurt, Germany for a couple of days. To those who know him, Cor is a man with a quick wit, an eye for the ladies and he is well known for telling wonderful jokes. He also knows how to get results from the textile business where other previous owners may have failed.

Recently, he commented to Fabrics & Furnishings International: "the textile business is changing so fast, you won't believe it." Those who know Cor well, find it hard to believe that a man so in love with life has had a stroke and all of his friends wish for his speedy recovery.

"He's doing better; he's doing much better," said Mark Jansen, sales manager for Dekortex, based in Cheektowaga, NY.

It is expected that DeKort will make a complete recovery sometime in 2007. Well wishers can send cards and letters to Cornelius DeKort at Dekortex, 60 Industrial Parkway, Cheektowaga, NY 14227.
