Bezmez Expands With New Export Manager
May 28, 2008
ISTANBUL, Turkey – With increased leadership, Bezmez has shifted its focus to new international markets this year at EVTEKS. Bezmez hired Khanzada Ahmadyar Khan, its first export manager in company history, six months ago.
"We expect to sell to England, Italy, Spain – mostly European countries," said Levent Bezmez, company owner. "That is why it was the most important thing that our export manager be able to speak English well."
A native English speaker, Khan graduated from the London School of Economics and has had three years of exporting experience.
"Bezmez is now trying to expand to Eastern Europe and North Africa." Khan said. "Now to sell to Eastern Europe we have to increase our quality and volume, while decreasing our price because they are developing countries. We will do five to seven local exhibitions for each of our target countries."
In order to increase quantity while decreasing price, Khan indicated that Bezmez will try to decrease fabric density of some of its products for the fiscal year 2009-2010. This will allow the company to continue to buy quality yarns from Switzerland. He stated this would not detract from material quality. "My boss doesn't want to sell the cheap stuff," Khan said.
"We've also started buying silk from India to increase our quality for elite and boutique designers," he added.
Speaking of the international market, Khan stated that statistically U.S. buying power has decreased by 37 percent, while European countries have increased buying by 32 percent and Turkey has also increased by 23 percent. For this reason, Bezmez will not be actively seeking to open the U.S. market.
