Özel Family Enters Textiles
September 20, 2000
Just 18 months ago, Soler Özel established a new textile factory in Izmir under the Gocay banner near the airport.
The company is expecting $20 million in sales in 2000 and $60 million by 2005.
The company handles knits and woven goods with reactive dyeing and printing capabilities. It can dye 15 tons of fabrics and print 50,000 meters daily. It produces bedding, curtains and fabrics for garments.
"Our future will include confeccion for the local and export market," said A. Nur Balin, general manager, with 28 years of textile experience. "The low to middle ranges are now the business of Pakistan and India. We'll focus on the middle to upper market," she explained. The Özel family ownership is based on its holdings in chromium mines. Armed with a $40 million investment, Özel built the plant from scratch, including a new 12-color Zimmer printer and engraving department with a Stork CAD system.
