Texco Expands Made-Ups, Launches Bedding Range

December 9, 2004

ENSCHEDE, Netherlands — After growing his business from €4.5 million in 1995 to €7.5 million in 2004, Henk Veldhuis, principal of Texco, has launched a bedding range under the Field House Window Fashion brand.

"In September 2003, we added made-ups for the first time to supply retail organizations with curtains, cushions, Roman blinds and table runners, said Henk Veldhuis. He named the new brand "Field House," the English translation of his name.

Texco, the parent of Field House, has applied to Decosit in order to exhibit these lines and Veldhuis feels the show organizer should take a better view of the made-ups business since most upholstery and fabric converters and some mills are getting into the fabrication business. Texco will show its total lines at Heimtextil in January.

"Our growth has been based on our ability to convert saleable collections in 80 countries," Veldhuis said. "It takes 40 meters of fabrics to produce 15 readymade curtains and that's the minimum order we expect from a customer," Veldhuis said.

Texco is a 25 year old converting company, Veldhuis explained. In 1998, Veldhuis bought 51 percent of the company from Klaas Hesseles, the previous owner. He acquired the balance of the company in 2001.

"Since I bought the company, our business has changed dramatically. Originally, 100 percent of our business was piece goods but today, it's 70 percent and it's still changing rapidly. By 2005, I expect the mix to be 50/50, piece goods to made-ups.

"Most of what we convert is now exported. About 60 percent of our customers are European wholesalers with the balance retailers. Our fabric line is priced between €2 and €7.95," he said.
