Sunder’s old Persian carpet designs gain popularity internationally

Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh -- Sunder Carpet Company’s recent addition to its carpet lineup, the old Persian designs, are a hot property internationally as they have been selling like hot pancakes.
The company sells under its brand name Sunder and specialises in lower hand knotted quality like 5x20 Gabbeh, 5x32 Kazak and 5x40 Mir and Bidjar among other designs.
“We are facing tough competition from machine made carpets and thus have increase our speed of new product developed and also expand to newer markets to stay ahead of the competition,” says M Gupta, proprietor of the brand.
The company has its major buyers in Europe mainly Germany, Austria, Switzerland along with Japan and US. It is now targeting other countries through international fairs and exhibitions as a part of its territorial expansion plans.
The Gupta family has been in carpet production since 1960s and started export from 1977. “In the last decade our company have started production of hand tuft and hand-woven (handloom) carpets both in modern and as well as old classical designs in hand tuft quality,” says the current doyen of the brand.
Established in the carpet city of India, Sunder Carpet Company has complete in house production facilities including spinning mill to produce woollen yarn, dyeing plant, weaving centres, carpet finishing centres.
