Showtime for Lineapelle

August 6, 2002

Washington, D.C. (USA) - The summer edition of Showtime (July 8-11, 2002, High Point) featured for the first time a trend presentation created by the organizers of Lineapelle, a leather exhibition held twice a year in Bologna, Italy. An 800 square foot booth in the temporary space at Market Square Suites highlighted new trends for the upholstery sector from several tanneries and synthetic manufacturers in Italy.

Sebastiano Brancoli, a U.S. representative of Lineapelle said the upholstery sector continually uses more leather each year. ''Manufacturers thus pursue investments in the development of innovative products that combine elegance with comfort.''

Twice a year, in May and November, the leather world comes together in Bologna for Lineapelle, what Brancoli, who is also managing director of Consultants International Group, calls ''a three-day immersion into all aspects of the leather sector.''

Lineapelle organizers say that more than 30,000 designers and buyers from 110 countries find the latest in trends, colors, and materials, including synthetics and supplies for things like shoe soles and heels, as well as accessories for belts, shoes and handbags. Lineapelle presents 1,500 exhibitors, including 600 tanneries from 37 countries, nearly 700 accessories and components manufacturers and about 200 synthetic materials suppliers.

Italian upholstery leather production is equal to 50,000,000 square meters per year for a value of $1.85 billion, 85 percent of which is exported. F&FI
