Russians Organize European Fair
August 5, 2004
MOSCOW, Russia – Three leading upholstery wholesalers, Ametist, Instroy and FIT invited 39 Russian furniture manufacturers to see collections brought from Proposte and Scoperta this past July in Zavidovo, about 100 km from Moscow.
Prior to staging 'Textile Generation" as the new fair is called, the only way Russian furniture producers could see better European fabrics was to attend the European shows or see the fabrics on frames at two Russian Furniture Fairs, Mebel in November and EuroExpoMebel in May.
''At Textile Generation, our guests could choose fabrics without any hurry, they could pay more attention to the details,'' said Ametist executive Katrina Urlik, who helped organize the exhibition for the wholesalers. We are planning to produce this "Textile Generation" Fair annually to provide local manufacturers with a possibility to start a new season with the same fabrics as their European furniture counterparts have,'' she said.
At this Fair negotiations were held between distributors and furniture manufacturers. Round-table discussions were also held covering the subjects of furniture development, modern design tendencies in Russia, in addition to marketing, business-to-business and end-consumer advertising, which were touched upon.
''At the moment in Russia, there is a trend towards fashion for original and unique furniture in Russia,'' Urlik said. ''The guests could choose collections and discuss urgent matters without any hurry. The principle of having only a limited number of guests allowed more detailed attention from top management of the distributing companies."
