Russian Copyright Laws To Improve in 3-5 Years

January 10, 2005

Moscow - The legal framework of Russian copyright law is being developed so that in three to five years, there will be an important copyright law in force in Russia, according to Alexander Lundin, president of Instroy, an important Russian fabric wholesaler.

Chinese fabric is increasing in the marketplace on a daily basis in Russia, he added. Chinese copies are serious problem here.

Arthur Shikhman, president of FIT, another important Russian wholesaler supported Lundins comments. I personally saw copies of Fortissimo designs made in China and sold in the CIS (Commonwealth Independent States) market. This didnt bother me much until I saw that the pirated designs were being sold as FIT branded product with FITs ''Modena'' brand prominently marked on the Chinese copy. The difference in color was minor. Otherwise, it was like the original.
