Rubelli Reorganizes
March 27, 2001
Venice, Italy – Rubelli, at 150 years of age, has reorganized its business operations of Bises, Lisio and Zetland into a single unit, Rubelli Spa with combined sales of 40 million euros, said Alessandro Favaretto Rubelli, principal.
Bises is a collection of novelty fabrics while Lisio is very classic and expensive, Rubelli said. The Rubelli Collection covers the medium to high and level, in classic and contemporary styling.
The Rubelli contract line is geared to hospitality and cruise ships with a separate sales force and specializes in weaving custom designs in Trevira fiber, for some of the most famous interior designers in the world.
Rubelli owns mills in Como and Florence plus one-third of the American mill, MTL, in partnership with MTL president Michael Hillebrand and the LeClerqs, a well known French textile family.
Rubelli is a partner of Sahco Hesslein in Bergamo Fabrics Inc., an American distributor to designers with a wholly owned showroom in New York (D&D Building), 18 agents throughout the States and sales in the $13 million range, Rubelli confirmed. This group grew 40 percent last year, he said, and looks ahead to a strong growth in 2001, too.
Nicoló, one of the Rubelli sons, heads up the import agency known as Breteuil. His other sons, fifth generation in the business, are Andrea, head of computer operations and Lorenzo, export manager, both in the Venetian headquarters.
Rubelli fabrics decorate prestigious buildings including, Buckingham Palace in London, the Presidential Palace in Rome, royal palaces in several Arabian countries, famous hotels like Excelsior in Rome, St. Regis in New York, Burj Al Arab in Dubai, and luxury cruise ships like the "Grand Princess."
Besides the U.S., Rubelli has its own distribution in France, Germany, England, Belgium and is well known and marketed in more than 50 countries around the world.
