Roth Fabric/Weathervane Hill Moves to Larger Facilities

January 25, 2002

East Norwalk, CT (USA) - Roth Fabric Inc./Weathervane Hill has moved to larger quarters. President Tom Roth said the new 50,000 square foot facility in East Norwalk, CT on the Norwalk River will enable the firm to consolidate its two warehouse facilities into one more efficient modern building. Offices, showroom and design studio will occupy the second level while warehousing and shipping/receiving, sample departments will be run out of the first floor.

The company devotes 60 percent of its production to multi-use upholstery and the rest to bedding. Weathervane Hill sells its fabrics for $6-$12 a yard, mainly to jobbers and manufacturers.

Roth heads up the design effort along with the design director, Robin Babbin.

"We deal in a niche product and our aim is to be unique and not like the big boys in the business," Roth said. "We like to keep a unique approach to home furnishings fabrics.

"We sell to a lot of top of bed of people who sell to Neimans or Horchow and we try to stay away from mass merchants."

Roth said the company will continue focusing on growth in juvenile furniture fabrics, bedding and windowcoverings. "It's a constant effort to be different and stay in areas that people are not in," said Roth. "We're doing more textures that would go well with a more contemporary look, which we've not really been strong on in the past. We're introducing a lot of textured plains this market that we think there's a real need for. Texture is a big part of the business today and by producing in India where we do hand-woven goods we have an opportunity to play around with finishes and weaves that you can't get from these modern looms that our competitors are using."
