Richard Oussoren Continues Raymakers Despite Its Bankruptcy by Lantal

HELMOND, Holland — Raymakers’ Richard Oussoren expects to relaunch his company with a full orderbook, he says, despite its bankruptcy by Lantal Textiles AG, the parent company.

The Board of Directors of Lantal Textiles AG, a transportation textile mill in Langenthal, Switzerland stopped subsidizing Raymakers and put it into bankruptcy as of October 1 according to Oussoren, Raymakers principal.

“A relaunch is now our goal and is also the preferred option of the Administrator, who started today,” Oussoren says. He expects to relaunch the company with a full orderbook, he says. “Conditions are favorable, no debts and in recent months, a good order entry, invoicing and quality of production. The orderbook is full. Many signals are on green so off we go to a new phase,” and despite supporting us well since the acquisition, now stopped the financing,” Oussoren says. “In recent weeks I have tried various options, but there was not enough time to work them out.”

The official bankruptcy will show up in public court records by this week’s end (October 4). The action by Lantal comes in less than 18 months of its ownership of Raymakers. (June 15, 2023)

“Raymakers did not start up on Monday, September 30 and the bankruptcy was declared today, October 1,” Oussoren told F&FI. “Lantal’s Supervisory Board did not give the green light to our business plan three weeks ago.” It is not known why Lantal took this action and an email to Urs Rickenbacher, Lantal CEO was not returned to F&FI. (The company said Rickenbacher was travelling until October 14.) The company still has not returned F&FI’s communication.

Lantal acquired Koninklijke Textielfabrieken J.A. Raymakers on June 15, 2023, and merged it with Gierlings Velpor, its Portuguese velvet mill. Apparently, the merger didn’t work out for them.

Raymakers, established in 1773, has been one of the leading interior velvet manufacturers. It distributes its products via wholesalers, textile editors, contract specialists and manufacturers worldwide. With locations in Helmond and Gemert in The Netherlands and British Velvets Ltd. in Burnley, UK, Raymakers offers a range of interior velvets.

Lantal Textiles AG, established in 1886, is a specialized in the design, production, and distribution of textiles and services for the international community of aircraft, bus, and railway operators as well as for VIP jets and superyachts. It was for the ground transportation market that Lantal acquired in 2017 Gierlings Velpor SA, velvet manufacturer in Portugal. This acquisition also gave Lantal a start in interior velvets.

At the time of the Raymakers merger, Oussoren, owner of Raymakers said; “The combination of two longstanding specialists in velvet manufacturing and developing it into a strong velvet house with Raymakers as the leading company, is an opportunity for our customers worldwide. It secures our operations, provides for succession planning and will give a strong impulse to our product- and collection development. This year (2023) Raymakers celebrates 250 years of existence, and I am pleased to have found in Lantal a solid partner that acknowledges our achievements and is offering us the possibility to further grow our position in the niche market of interior velvets.”

Urs Rickenbacher, CEO of Lantal Textiles said at that time: “This cooperation offers a strong impulse for further development of our Portuguese operation and, more important, the opportunity to build a new, third division in our company for specialty interior velvets.”
“Our vision to bring together the interior velvet craftsmanship of Raymakers, its English subsidiary British Velvets and Gierlings Velpor, will no doubt result in a leading interior velvet house with a strong emphasis on creativity and innovation.”
