Rhodia Technical Fibers Replaces Rhodia Performance Fibers with New President
November 21, 2001
Valence, France—Rhodia Group has merged two divisions, Rhodia Performance Fibers and Rhodia Industrial Yarns, to form a new division to be known as Rhodia Technical Fibers.
Laurent Schmitt has been named president of the new combined company based in Paris and Ruben Lazo's post as president of Rhodia Performance Fibers has been eliminated. Lazo's new responsibilities are not known at this time. He was president since January, 2001.
Rhodia, producers of the Sylkharesse® and Novaltech® brands of tow for the nylon flock fabrics industry, is in the middle of a major investment program in the tow making operations for flock and "this will continue," said Regis Marceron the textile fiber director of Rhodia. He runs day-to day flock operations in Valence and will report to Schmitt. He previously reported to Lazo.
Lazo is currently based in Arras, France and was traveling in the USA at the time of this report. He could not be reached for comment.
Lazo has spent his entire 17-year career with Rhodia including the holding of posts in all levels of production and engineering. He was also most recently involved in the strategy and marketing of chemicals and fibers.
In Lazo's previous position as president of Rhodia Performance Fibers, he was responsible for managing eight plants including the main plant in Valence, which is undergoing a major expansion of its tow making facilities for nylon flock used in upholstery.
When the expansion is completed in 2002, all of the European tow making operations will be consolidated in this facility, it was learned. Production in the new expanded facility is expected to begin in January, Marceron said. (See F&FI, summer, 2001, p. 44) Marceron had visited Rhodia customers in the USA in early November but the changes took place after the sales trip. Marceron stressed that the changes will not affect the plans to expand the nylon tow operation for flock and business will be conducted as usual.
Rhodia has three offices in France; one in Colmar, and another in Arras and Valence. Rhodia also has plants in Germany, Italy and Brazil.
