MILAN, Italy -- By that time it will be four years in the making, but fashionistas have only two more years to wait for the first Armani hotel, set to open in 2008 in Milan.
And there's a lot more where that came from. In March, Emaar Hotels & Resorts LLC -- an Armani licensee, responsible for real estate, construction, management and operations of the Armani Hotels and Resorts -- announced that they intend to triple original plans, calling for the development of now up to 30 hotels and resorts with an investment outlay of $3 billion.
The second property is under construction within the EMAAR Properties' Burj Dubai development, which will be the world's tallest residential and commercial building – big place to fit a big name. It will include 175 guest rooms and suites, restaurants and a spa.
The hotel won't have the only interiors blessed by the fashion god – the Burj Dubai will also offer 160 luxury residential apartments, all designed by Giorgio Armani and furnished with pieces from the Armani Casa home furnishings collection.
"This marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Armani story," said Giorgio Armani. "In this our thirtieth anniversary year (2005), I cannot think of a more energizing prospect than bringing my philosophy of style and design to a collection of hotels and resorts."
"I strongly believe that for those people who enjoy the Armani fashion and home furnishings collections, there will be a real enthusiasm for the possibility to now stay at an Armani hotel or resort. This continues our ongoing strategy of building the Armani universe into a comprehensive lifestyle brand."
In 2005, Giorgio Armani S.p.A awarded a long term license to EMAAR Hotel & Resorts LLC for the Armani hotels. Armani will oversee all aspects of design and style.
Design development of the properties – set for various hotspots around the world – has been taking place within the Armani Hotels and Resorts division at Armani headquarters in Milan.
