Q Designs Consolidates Market Position

January 2, 2001

Appley Bridge, Lancashire (UK) — Q Designs has consolidated its position in the market, according to joint owners Susan Winfield and Jos Peters.

"We have expanded our markets, adding Japan, Australia and Scandinavia," said Winfield. "Now we are launching in the U.K. in a big way through a major distributor."

She added that buyers at present are all a bit nervous, and looking for a new trend. "We have no strong direction from buyers. They are worried about taking the first step," she said. "However, we have had a great reaction to our collection, particularly from export markets. The feedback has been positive, with some customers committed to taking the whole range."

She continued: "We have had a terrific last 12 months. Much more has been achieved than we expected, which has surprised us. Conditions are tough in a market that is very skeptical."

Peters added that Q Designs' plan was to continue to build up exports, particularly to Germany and France, and to expand the range further.

"Although we are very much in the middle market, we offer a better flavor, while at the same time being exclusive," he said. "In fact, a lot of our products are right for the contract market."

Q Designs has appointed Amanda Barron as a designer. The company has around 120 lines in its innovative collection.F&FI
