Pierre Frey Acquires Maison Le Manach

April 4, 2013

Pierre Frey, the French editeur, has acquired Maison Le Manach, a manufacturer of woven and printed fabrics located in Tours, France since 1829.

Maison Le Manach joins the other Pierre Frey brands which include Braquenié (purchased in 1991) and Boussac Fadini-Borghi (purchased in 2004).

“Our goal is to preserve the historic capital of one of the last great French Houses of furnishing textiles,” according to Patrick Frey, who now is the head of the Maison founded by his father. Le Manach is one of the last French Maisons able to produce French silks and velvets on handlooms.  This editor and manufacturer of upholstery fabrics descends from a long tradition of silk weaving in France’s Touraine region which began with Louis XI.

Although it produces in a time-honored way, Le Manach’s made to order collections span a range of decorative styles, from the great classics to fabrics with a more contemporary spirit

Le Manach was the first company to be recognized with the designation of “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” (Living Heritage Company) in 2006, an award granted by the State to French companies who distinguish themselves by their craftsmanship and manufacturing excellence.  This honorable designation is just one of the many similarities with Pierre Frey, who also received the award for its weaving mill in Cambrai.

In fact, both Maisons have a history of preserving French heritage.  With their invaluable archival collections and passion for excellence, they have both contributed to important projects, like the renovation of the Châteaux of Versailles and Fontainebleau, the National Assembly and the Palais de l'Elysée in Paris, according to a Frey spokesman.

Pierre Frey itself was established in 1935. The company designs, creates and manufactures fabrics and wallpapers in the purest French tradition, with distribution worldwide.  The company’s collection of over 7,000 items includes Pierre Frey designs as well as collections from the company are other three brands:  Braquenie, Fadini Borghi and Boussac.  Patrick Frey, President and Creative Director of the company, is joined by his sons Pierre, Vincent, and Matthieu in this family-owned business.
