Persan Opens Its First Showroom Abroad, in Budapest
April 20, 2004
ISTANBUL - Persan, the exclusive JAB wholesaler and editeur in Turkey, has opened its first foreign branch in Budapest to serve the retail and wholesale markets. Export Director Umit Soysal said the company will soon open a retail shop in Georgia, which would be Persans first store in Asia.
Theres a big market for our collection in Hungary, Romania, Poland, Chechnya and Austria, Soysal said. As an editeur, Persan has been creating its own designs for more than 20 years. We work with mills in Corlu and Bursa, she said.
Persan is owned by the three Kis brothers, Ahmet, Mahmut and Recep. Ahmet handles the finance and his brothers handle new products and purchasing. The brothers started the business in 1975 and now a second generation is part of the operation. Mahmuts daughters, Dilara Kis Bilgili and Rumeysa Kis-Dilarais, are in charge of made-ups and accessories, curtains and bedspreads. Kis-Dilarais, an interior architect, handles renovations, shop design and trade fair stands. Ahmets daughter Asli is finance manager.
Persan expects to move its headquarters closer to the warehouse on the Asian side near Harbiye in June, Soysal said. Persan exports cut length and piece goods from its 3,500 SKUs from its warehouse on the Asian side of Istanbul. The collection will be available on the computer if the retail buyer wants to see how a selection might look on a furniture frame. We give the consumer many alternatives so they can personalize their decoration to their own taste, said Sahika Kocak, promotion director. There are so many choices at Persan, a customer has to end up doing business here.
Kocak has developed a new Persan ad campaign for Art & Décor, Maison Francaise and House Beautiful.
The company has eight outlets in Turkey; four in Istanbul; two in Ankara; one in Izmir, and one in Bursa. The firm also relies on 25 other Turkish distributors to show its collections. Soysal said Persan plans to name a distributor in Kuwait and Greece shortly. Persan has had a distributor in Iran for the last 10 years.
Persan has 120 items in its spring collection, including a new jacquard woven silk collection with solid coordinates. In addition, the firm has launched a casual line in poly/cotton available in solids, stripes and checks for upholstery and heavy curtains, and a modern collection of chenilles in black and white. The company is in the early stages of developing TreviraCS items for the hotel market, Soysal said.
Persan is exhibiting at Evteks for the second time and has plans to participate in Heimtextil 2005.
