Pellett Retires
April 18, 2002
Midrand (SA) - Past and present Fabric Library staff, customers, suppliers and friends enjoyed an evening of nostalgia at a farewell party for Mike Pellett, chairman of the Fabric Library, who retired after 37 years with the company. Former chairman of the Homemakers Group, Alan Schlesinger, gave a moving tribute to Pellett whom he described as the doyen of the furnishing fabric industry in South Africa.
The staff of the Fabric Library presented Pellett with an album in the form of a fabric sample book. It contained pictures and memorabilia of his 37 years with the company and was titled "Memories 1964-2001." He was also presented with an antique Victorian silver gallery tray and other gifts.
In retirement, Pellett said he would build his dream house in Knysna, a wonderful location on the "Garden Route" in South Africa. He said he plans to take up painting again and visit his children and grandchildren around the world.
