On-Em Ramps Up Export
January 17, 2003
Istanbul - On-Em is exporting three million meters of fabrics a year worldwide, according to Ali Cenbk Tuzco, one of the three partners.
''We create our own designs and in some cases, produce according to the customers' designs,'' said Tuzco. He said On-Em works with Turkish mills from $4 to $16 a meter.
He said the company's export countries include China. ''These are special designs in jacquard velvet with a dragon or horse as a theme. We sell container by container, month after month to China. We can't sell to Chinese customers directly so we have a Chinese wholesaler with ten offices who handles the sales and collects the money for us. We also sell flocks to China in the $4.50 to $4.70 range. China doesn't have Van de Wiele machines.''
The company also exports to Poland, America, Russia and the U.K.
On-Em's sister company, Armado, a wholesaler in Poznan, Poland imports 150,000 meters a month from Turkish mill sources. Its client base consists of Polish furniture makers and Polish fabric wholesalers. Armado has buying offices in Bursa and Istanbul. Sagip Karapinar owns the company with two partners, Tuzco and more recently, Nafi Seferoglu, former export manager of Epingle. F&FI
