Mitchell Group's Sta-Kleen(tm) Polyurethane 'Erases' Stains

May 30, 2010

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Sta-Kleen collections of urethane upholstery are being offered by Kravet Contract, Scott Fabrics, and cf stinson. Described by inventor/marketer The Mitchell Group as the first truly erasable performance fabric, Sta-Kleen features built-in resistance to stains including blood and urine.

Each jobber offered its exclusive designs but Kravet has the largest offering of the innovative fabric.

Karen Keating, product development manager for Kravet said she is putting in a lot of effort behind the new technology because "it has great potential in hospitality applications, especially headboards and barstools." She is also marketing her 210 Sta-Kleen sku's to the healthcare market.

Marketed by The Mitchell Group, Sta-Kleen was unveiled at the 2010 Hospitality Design Expo and afforded attendees the opportunity to participate in "Now You See It...Now You Don't" demonstrations featuring the brand’s iconic Erasable Man and his Sta-Kleen jacket.

“Sta-Kleen performance fabric is a true revolution in urethane faux leather upholstery that is made impermeable to stains with a proprietary bonding process,” said Bill Fisch, president of The Mitchell Group. “It creates new possibilities for hospitality and other commercial markets because it protects furnishings in high-traffic areas, enhances fashion for designers and reduces maintenance costs for the end-user.”

Fisch will also market the product direct to the furniture industry. Sta-Kleen is made in Asia by what Fisch says is "a reputable supplier.” It took Fisch 18 months to develop Sta-Kleen and it is expected to elevate polyurethane from commodity to proprietary status, but not without charging a premium.

The Mitchell Group will stock the product in the USA, Fisch said. The Mitchell Group has been an innovator in the urethane category that is growing 25 percent per year, Fisch said. He started the trend with reptile skin looks in urethane seven years ago and continued to innovate the product until Sta-Kleen was invented.

Countless attempts to mark the Erasable Man's urethane jacket with black magic marker proved fruitless at the HD Show. Sometimes there was a ghost-like residue after a cloth removed the marker but alcohol removed the residue without a trace.

The surface of the upholstery is abrasion-resistant and is said to maintain the cleanability of the faux-leather for more than 100,000 cycles. It is also sulfide stain resistant, anti-microbial, and anti bacterial, and available in an array of contemporary colors and patterns.
