Milliken Introduces Glue-Free Carpet System
February 12, 2004
LaGRANGE, Georgia (U.S.) - Milliken Carpet has developed a technology that allows modular carpet to be installed without the use of adhesives. TractionBack is a high-friction coating applied to carpet backings that eliminates the need for traditional wet glues or the newer ''peel and stick'' dry adhesives.
The innovation reduces installation time and expenses while improving indoor air quality. Available on all Milliken modular carpets, the glue-free system is the first of its kind on the commercial market.
''Carpets with TractionBack will not move on the floor, but can easily be removed to access underfloor wiring and cabling, replace damaged tiles, or change carpets and reconfigure the space,'' said Bill Gregory, Milliken Carpet director of new products and technologies.
Milliken estimates that that 16.7 square yards of carpet can be installed per man hour with TractionBack, versus 12.5 for wet adhesives and 10 for the peel and stick method.
Eliminating adhesives also improves air quality and produces less waste.
There is no need to prime or seal old flooring before applying TractionBack.
