Mike Farrell Designs Valdese Line After Adesal Departure
April 17, 2013
HIGH POINT, NC-- Mike Farrell has established himself as an independent designer as of May 1 generating a new collection under his name for Valdese Weavers Inc. after ending a 12 year relationship with Adesal Jacquards, the Argentina based mill.
Farrell also operated as sales and marketing manager for Adesal, working closely with mill owner Pablo Lacalle to build and develop the mill’s presence in the USA.
“While saddened to be losing Mike, who has become not only a respected colleague but a good friend of the entire Adesal family, we are excited to move into the next phase of our business in the USA,” said Mariano Gonzalez, third generation family membe rof the mill. “Since Mike announced his departure to us in November we have made arrangements with him to maintain the showroom at Showtime in its current location and have acquired his sales organization to help make this a smooth transition,” Gpnzalez said.
In his new business, Farrell expressed a desire to shift his focus primarily to design as a key factor in the decision to move on. “I had managed the logistics and sales for ten years and was ready to focus solely on design and marketing,” he explained.
Farrell says his career with Adesal was defined by overcoming a series of challenges and setbacks. “At times it felt as if some invisible force pushed back as we broke new ground in this market; each time it did, we decided to laugh it off and keep going. When our mill burned to the ground, we launched our themed collection ‘Some Like it Hot’. When Argentina’s economy collapsed, we designed a showroom to look like a chaotic, colorful slum.”
The family owned Argentine company and its USA division, Adesal Jacquards Inc. will continue to operate under the direction of Pablo Lacalle, Mariano Gonzalez and Cecilia Martinez who have been working in the USA market since 1992, Farrell explained.
