HIGH POINT, NC--Michael Harris Frankel, the CEO of Dorell Fabrics Co. died of unspecified causes on November 1. The news of his untimely passing spilled out during Showtime here. Everyone who knew Michael was saddened by his untimely passing. There was much heartfelt talk about it in the hallways and showrooms. Nobody could believe that someone so young and so talented was taken from our midst. A private memorial service was held for family members at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home in Arlington Heights, Ill. where Michael made his home. He was under 30 years of age and was the oldest son of Ron and Marla Frankel. Ron is the owner of Loomcraft and Dorell Fabrics Inc., retailers and importers of decorative fabrics and upholstery, well known in the textile industry. Michael was a recent MBA graduate from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business in 2016. He also graduated the University of Pennsylvania in 2011. He joined Dorell Fabrics in 2012 and reported to his father, Ron Frankel. Michael moved to Laguna Beach, CA earlier this year in order to run Dorell. Before that he was with Loomcraft Textile & Supply in Vernon Hills, Ill. Prior to joining Loomcraft, he was an analyst with Goldman Sachs after his graduation from the University of Pennsylvania in 2011. Michael is survived by his wife Caitlin. They were married just one year and had no children. He had a favorite puppy named ‘Frank.’ Michael is also survived by his three younger brothers, Danny, Brian and Andy, all in the family business. In lieu of flowers, the Frankel Family asks that you send donations to the charity of your choice. Michael will be remembered as a loving husband and was considered by his peers to be an extremely bright and talented individual who was blessed with a photographic memory. “He could read something once and remember it verbatim,” a colleague told F&FI. All of us mourn the loss of this young man and our hearts go out to Ron, Marla and his three brothers.
