Leslie Lewitas Takes the Helm at Designtex
October 29, 2003
NEW YORK - Leslie Lewitas was promoted in September to executive vice president for product development and marketing at Designtex Group just eight years after joining the company as a sales representative.
At Lewitas's inauguration, Designtex President Tom Hamilton credited her with the headway Designtex made this year in marketing and design. ''Our customers have responded extremely well to our recent product introductions and new efforts to support them,'' Hamilton said. ''As vice president of product strategy, Lewitas has proven to be an integral part of this success.''
''Her appointment to this new position will link the creative resources of both design and marketing, bringing a dynamic and cohesive approach to product design and development; public relations and advertising; sales and training tools; and tradeshows and events.''
Lewitas immediately assumed her new position. Designtex design consultants and departments of marketing; Unique Solutions, DG Design Studio; and Showrooms report directly to her.
Despite her tenure, Lewitas approaches her job with a greenhorn's enthusiasm. ''Every day I learn something new,'' she said. ''Every day is a new challenge and every day I get to work with the most creative and amazing people.''
In the long run, Lewitas aspires to work with industry associates - ''be they competitors or partners,'' she said - to develop sustainable products. In the meantime, she delights in her favorite perk of the trade: frequent flyer miles.
Lewitas joined Designtex in 1995 as a sales representative in the Midwest division. She has secured such accounts as Allstate Insurance, State Farm Insurance, Comdisco, Walgreens and Choice Hotels. She was chosen twice as salesperson of the year, and was nominated four times to the President's Advisory Council. Lewitas also held a sales position at Momentum Textiles. She earned a degree in textile design at Michigan State University.
