Las Vegas Market, World Market Center, Proves Successful For Home Furnishings

August 11, 2005

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Buyers and sellers alike found the Las Vegas Market in July at the World Market Center (WMC), the largest new trade complex in the country, to be a triumph for the home and hospitality furnishings industry.

The market's debut featured 1,200 exhibitors, with 62,000 attendees. It was the largest show launch in U.S. history for any industry trade show, filling 2.5 million-square-feet of permanent and temporary exhibition space in three venues.

Attendance spanned across the 50 states and included representatives from 83 countries.

"We are pleased with the stellar reviews from exhibitors, buyers, industry observers and the media which have established WMC as an overwhelming success for the global home furnishings industry," said chief operating officer of WMC Gerry Sawyer.

"Moving forward, we are confident that we will deliver to our exhibitors and buyers the type of experience that will sustain the high level of energy and productivity at Las Vegas Market," he said.

"We had more appointments going into this market than we expected. The impressive part was the fact that these dealers – and many more – showed up and actually bought," said chief executive officer of Broyhill Harvey Dondero.

"The quality of the traffic and the amount of new buyers we saw will have meaningful impact on our business. This market proved itself as much more than a regional event. I believe Las Vegas has the potential to develop into a very important international markets center," Dondero said.

Buyers were impressed by the new product introductions presented by exhibitors and the "state-of-the-art" venue that made it easy to get around.

Jack Kashani, co-founder and managing partner of WMC, has announced accelerated development plans, shortening the construction schedule from 10 to seven years for the 12 million-square-foot campus.

The next Las Vegas Market will take place from January 30 – February 3, 2006.
