September 24, 2001
High Point, NC (USA) — Eight-year-old JF Fabrics Inc. is the new kid on the block as an American book jobber with a niche in transitional, traditional and contemporary styled fabrics. JF calls on retailers, decorators, upholstery and over-the-counter.
Jon Hinds, executive vice president, sales, heads this American division of Joanne Fabrics Inc. based in Toronto, Canada. Hinds is a Canadian who migrated to the south 27 years ago as president of La France Industries.
"We have the best books in the business," Hinds said. Dutch wet-prints are a mainstay of the line."
JF Fabrics has 11 reps on the road, half of them fulltime with JF and the balance as independent reps. Hinds said the company plans to expand its sales force to 20 in the future.
Tom Garrity is the U.S. sales manager. He has been with the firm for eight years.
Buying is done out of Canada by Bernie Hovesen, principal and his staff which includes his wife Joanne; daughter Shelley and Allison Shiraga.
"We're seeing a surge in the growth of velvets," said Hovesen at a dinner party hosted by Valdese Weavers in High Point. "Business is flat in Canada but it's really growing for us in the U.S.A.
