JAB Leaves Heimtextil

FRANKFURT, Germany — If you're looking for JAB (Josef Anstoetz Bielefeld) at Heimtextil Frankfurt in 2005, you won't find them.
JAB, the large European fabric and home furnishings wholesaler based in Bielefeld, Germany, will not exhibit at Heimtextil 2005 in its effort to pare down expenses.
Messe Frankfurt has leased JAB's large space in Hall 3.1 to three other German fabric editeurs, namely Christian Fischbacher, Nya Nordiska Textiles and Fuggerhaus Stoffe. All three had neighboring spaces to JAB in Hall 3.1 in 2004. "These three companies more than covered the loss of rental revenue previously paid by JAB," a Messe Frankfurt spokesman said "but we were genuinely sorry to see JAB leave the fair after such a long time in it."
JAB had been a fixture at Heimtextil for many years with an 800 square meter exhibit space that was lavishly appointed and beautifully housed the JAB decorative fabric collections. Messe Frankfurt said the space itself costs $150,000 for the four day fair but with decoration, a full compliment of staff and associated expenses, it is estimated that the event cost JAB $750,000 annually.
"JAB has the largest exterior sales force in the world, especially in Europe but JAB wants to see how their business goes without participating at Heimtextil," an industry source explained. In leaving Heimtextil, the management of JAB left the door open to the possibility they may return in the future in order to soften the blow of their departure to Messe Frankfurt executives.
Since 2001, Heimtextil has attracted 90,000 visitors with the number of exhibitors well over 3,000 companies. It is the largest home furnishings fair in the world and has been held 33 consecutive years. Prior to that, Heimtextil was part of Ambiente, another German fair.
