Integra Linings Develops Lightweight Black Out

March 22, 2002

Myrtle Beach, SC (USA) — Integra Linings, a division of Integra Group, just got the patent for a drapery lining, that is said to be half of the weight of conventional blackout lining, carbon free and environmentally safe. "Solaro" linings will be available beginning 1 May.

The linings are the basis of a new family of fabrics for the firm which can be heat transfer printed and are dry cleanable. Aaron Gelvan, vice president of operations for Integra will head up the new linings division. Purcell sees a $15 million potential for the Solara line, which is specifically geared for the hospitality trade. The strategy is to keep adding products which can be utilized by his workroom customer base.

"Solaro fabrics are inherently flame retardant and pass NFPA 701 small scale code," said Terry Purcell, owner of the patented product. "Solaro is the only light blocking product line that offers a government thermal barrier insulation rating," he said.

Purcell, through Integra International, is a converter of fabrics designed for workrooms. "We're the only converter in America that specializes in catering to the workrooms. This lining will save the workroom freight dollars when they ship it to and from the fabrication facility."

The linings employ technology used by the National Space and Aeronautical Association in space crafts and suits, in MRI machinery throughout the world and by the U.S. military as an insulator against harsh weather," said Purcell.

"Solaro will be welcomed by my workroom customers because it reduces the shipping cost of the finished draperies due to the weight saving materials and is priced lower than other blackout linings they may be using currently," Purcell said.

Solaro uses aluminum instead of carbon and is the equivalent of three pass linings but will be sold at the price of two pass products, Purcell said.

Integra also specializes in converting wide width fabrics in 126-inch widths for the bedspread trade. Integra introduced an 18 color line of solid color fabrics for bedspread backing in March as well as two new lines of imported sheers. The sheers include 118-inch wide voile and batiste in three colors, with a two million yard inventory.

"The workroom in most cases can deliver the sheer curtains to the hotel project at very competitive prices," he said. "We are the importer of the goods.

"We also have bedding fabrics in 54, 63 and 117 inch widths to minimize waste for the workroom," Purcell said. Integra services around 200 workrooms nationwide, which might produce $1 million to $20 million in sales annually in bedspreads and drapery for the hotel industry.
