Influential Paris Yarn Fair Launches Furnishings Forum
May 17, 2001
Paris — One of Europe's most influential trade shows for apparel yarn is expanding into the furnishings sector and opening up to international exhibitors.
The next Expofil yarn and fibers exhibition, being held at the Parc des Expositions de Paris-Nord Villepinte from 5-7 June 2001, will launch a forum dedicated to furnishing yarns alongside its established fashion forum for the apparel sector.
The twice-yearly Expofil show already has more than 80 collections dedicated to the furnishings market. But while home textile trends have aligned themselves much more closely with those in apparel fashion, the furnishings sector has different product information requirements, the exhibition organizers comment.
Around 5% of Expofil visitors are already dedicated to furnishings. This proportion should increase significantly with the new initiative.
The fashion forum will now include a 150 square meter space to illustrate color and material trends specific to the furnishings fabrics, household textiles, net curtains and other furnishing sectors.
The Expofil steering committee also announced that it is changing the exhibition's selection criteria by lifting the restriction on access to producers from outside Western Europe. At the same time, the trade fair will also tighten up the requirements governing product innovation and creativity, the commercial reputation of potential exhibitors and their compliance with the major principles involved in fair trading.
Expofil is already an international event with the involvement of a number of multinational fiber groups, while European spinners have made numerous investments around the world, said Expofil president Didier Tardy.
