Indigo Grows in Trade Show Giants' Shadows

December 18, 2001

New York, NY – Exhibition visitors to Brussels last September, were greeted with an broad menu of home design experiences, ranging from the very well-established Decosit upholstery exposition, and Deco Contract for contract interiors, to TIP for Indian textiles and Indigo Home Textiles Fair exhibiting European design studios and independent designers. And visiting them was relatively easy, what with shuttle buses and close proximity to one another.

Indigo, however, was very different from the other shows, first, because its exhibitors were displaying designs rather than fabrics, and second, because the show provides 12 month forecasts of design trends.

Indigo has experienced a surge of visitors – not only in Brussels, which is their sole home textile design exposition – but also in Paris this past October, where they organized in conjunction with Premiere Vision for clothing fabrics and Mod'Amont for fashion accessories and supplies.

At its debut, Indigo was dedicated to home décor and was first held in 1974 in a hotel. Since then, it has grown to five yearly events: Two in Paris with attendance of 10,000 and 170 exhibitors, two in Lille with 40 exhibitors, and the Brussels show with 140 exhibitors which received 5,000 visitors. More than 10,000 designs are introduced in Paris and Brussels at each show.
