Heimtextil Focuses on Trends
September 4, 2008
FRANKFURT, Germany - This year, the Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH has expanded the trends section of Heimtextil, Germany's textile trade show. Heimtextil's Trend Book has been produced in magazine format for the first time in show history, focusing on six trend themes that designers believe to be prevalent across the design fields: fashion, design and architecture.
The six trends include: Illusionist, Time Traveler, Fortune Teller, Alchemist, Witchcraft and Enchanted. The Illusionist trend incorporates high-technology fabric and embodies the idea of morphing natural human beauty into surreal shapes. Time Traveler includes exaggerated ornamental design, deco graphics and the idea of combining antique elements with futuristic fabrics. Fortune Teller summarizes the handmade movement, the eco-friendly trend and a cross-pollination of cultures within product. Alchemist relates to architecture's influence on fabric and the art of angle and geometry. Witchcraft includes faux fur and feathers and products inspired by natural surfaces. Finally, Enchanted plays with the possibilities of plastic, redefining its uses in the interior.
For trend forecasting purposes, Heimtextil reached out to international designers. Armed with renowned designers such as Chris Sanderson of The Future Laboratory and Anne Marie Commandeur of Stijlinstituut Amsterdam, Heimtextil plans to expand the trends section at the show. This increased focus will be demonstrated visually by the Dutch style agencies Stijlinstituut Amsterdam.
