January 21, 2010
FRANKFURT, Germany - With more than 72,000 visitors from more than 120 countries, the 40th annual Heimtextil Frankfurt saw an increase in traffic from buyers who showed increasing optimism that the worst may be over or at least nearly so.
The show presented products and trends from 2,521 exhibitors from Jan. 13 to 16 in its Messe exhibition halls.
Despite the difficult situation in the textile industry and the retail market, the fair was not only distinguished by a stable number of exhibitors but also by an increase in the number of visitors, said Detlef Braun, member of the Board of Management of Mess Frankfurt. The mood among participants was highly optimistic. They are fed up with tales of woe and were prepared to make active use of the fair to boost business by beginning the new year with fresh products, concepts and themes.
The statistics for the show attendance indicate a six percent increase in traffic from outside Germany. In regards to the increase, Braun said, Heimtextil has more than clearly underscored its position as the opening event of the business year for the global textile world.
In addition, of all the exhibitors, 2,140 were foreign companies. After Germany, the most well-represented nations at the show were Turkey, Italy, France, Belgium, Spain and Portugal. Asian exhibitors came mostly from India, China, Pakistan, Taiwan and Hong Kong. A survey of show participants came out with 71 percent of exhibitors and visitors feeling satisfactory to good about the shows success. Last year, such a stance was taken by only 56 percent of exhibitors and 66 percent of visitors.
