Goeters Establishes Contract Division and Expands Product Range
September 2, 2003
ZELE, Belgium — A year after offering wet-prined contract fabrics to customers, the rotary screen printer Goeters Ars et Labor has established a separate contract division.
The division has a dedicated design team and sales force, which calls on contract specialists worldwide. The company is also making its design archives available to customers of the new contract program, according to general manager Hank Dedecker. Previously Goeters's contract customers's choices were limited to designs that could be transfer-printed, but now Goeters is offering wet-printed designs in contract qualities.
The contract collections include two dispersed printed Trevira®CS wide-width fabrics for bedding and upholstery; one wet printed cotton/Kanecaron® blends for upholstery; and one printed, three-layer coated FR blackout lining to coordinate with designs in other proprietary collections. The contract line is priced from $5 to $13 per meter and is available in 600 meters per color.
Goeters, which has sales in $20 million range, according to Dedecker, also offers printed sheers in 2.8-meter widths as well as a complete range of printed bed linen. The company produces made-ups for bedding and curtains mostly for European wholesalers and mail order retailers. In recent years, Goeters has been positioning itself to serve smaller markets.
"It is difficult for a rotary screen printer like Goeters to exploit niches because of the set-up time required to produce the small runs required by today's customers," Dedecker acknowledged. "Goeters now has the flexibility and creativity to pursue these niches. We have also found a way to produce small runs on our rotary screen printer."
Goeters has also developed an exclusive collection of printed silks with six base cloth colors for Arte Studio. (Arte Studio will show the products at DecoContract.)
At Heimtextil 2004, Goeters will introduce a concept collection of fabrics under the Ars et Labor brand in small run, 50-meter minimums. The range will include sheers and plains for drapery and upholstery with delivery within 48 hours, Dedecker said. "We are aiming to distribute Ars et Labors as broadly worldwide as possible," Dedecker said.
