Fire Fails To Put Out Lenzing Group's Spark
November 14, 2003
LENZING, Austria-Despite the effects of a fire in their main production plant in October, Lenzing Group officials confirmed that production of Lyocell fiber is in full swing and growing, and that the company will exhibit its complete line at Heimtextil in Frankfurt this week.
The Lenzing-based company's state-of-the-art Lyocell facility in Helligenkreuz suffered some damage from the October fire, but has since increased its output.
''The effect of this accident at our Lyocell plant was fortunately small in respect to harming anybody,'' said Dieter Eichinger, Lyocell marketing director. ''We were also able to cope with the temporary lack in supply of fibers. We expect to see the start up of the second line of Lyocell in spite of the fire.''
''As a result of the fire, I have seen no shortage of fiber or yarn in the U.S.A.,'' said Lenzing's U.S. marketing representative, Victoria Pik.
Heimtextil exhibitor Hefel Textil of Lindau, Germany produces Lyocell duvet covers and fillers for the European market while American producer United Feather and Down is marketing a similar product in the U.S. Heimtextil exhibitor Ibena of Bocholt, Germany also markets Lyocell blankets in Europe and the U.S.
Lyocell is a cellulosic fiber made from woodpulp. The fiber is often used in towels for its softness, moisture absorption ability and low-maintenance needs.
