MIAMI BEACH, FL — The fabric industry is trying to figure out what the impact of the new tariffs will be on their customers. The size of the increased cost the tariffs will bring is being formulated by fabric exporters as we write this overview.

It’s not new that costs are going up due to the new US import tariffs.

"I think it’s fair to reciprocate. Who knew everyone was charging much more tariff for U.S. products," says Ari Greenfield, principal of Magitex, a jobber in Miami, FL.

April 3 is the day when US tariffs take effect for all countries of the world.

Every country exporting to the USA will pay at least a 10 percent tax on fabric, upholstery, furniture and ready-made exports.

However, many countries will be paying a higher tariff, well over 10% on fabric exports. Here’s an example of the tariffs the following list of countries will be paying on exports to the USA in descending order:
Cambodia-49%
Vietnam-46%
Thailand-36%
China-34%
Taiwan-32%
India-26%
South Korea-25%
Japan-24%
Europe-20%

These are reciprocal tariffs at about half the rate countries outside the USA have been charging for US-made products over many years.
