Designtex Markets Buttery Fabric
October 29, 2003
NEW YORK - Designers, rejoice! The collection of buttery soft residential fabric the Designtex Group introduced in May at long last hits the market in December.
Fabric mavens raved about the stainproof, 53-SKU Crypton(r) textile collection called Cheek to Cheek when Designtex unveiled it at Neocon. The durable, moisture- and mildew-resistant fabrics are the first Crypton products to exhibit a soft, supple feel.
''The story of the Designtex effort is related to finishing and hand,'' Designtex Design Director Jane Wicks said. ''Until now, no one could finish Crypton as a pile or chenille fabric without it feeling like sandpaper.''
To capitalize on Cheek to Cheek's success, Wicks plans to update the collection in the spring. She said the new fabrics will exhibit apparel and residential influences and will boast ''juicier'' colors such as pink and lime green.
Each product in the Designtex collection has a music-themed name: Samba, solids and textures in 21 colors; Bossa Nova, boucles in 10 colors; Pasa Doble, stripes in 12 colors; and Minuet, an intertwining leaf pattern in 10 colors. Designers can request customized colors and specify the fabrics in 50,000 to 100,000 double rubs.
Quaker Fabric Corp. performed the finishing process for Designtex's Cheek to Cheek collection and hopes to market other Crypton collections through the contract specialist.
