Crowson Fabrics to Open Kings Road Showroom in January

Dedicated Outlet to Feature Crowson and Newly Acquired Monkwell Brands
Uckfield, East Sussex (UK) - Crowson Fabrics Ltd. and its newly acquired Monkwell brand plans to open its flagship store on Kings Road in London right next door to Sanderson on or about 1 January, 2002, according to Neil Mooney, general manager of Crowson.
''This is part of making a statement. By being on King''s Road, we feel we''ll be more in the public eye than in the Chelsea Harbor Design Center,'' Mooney said. Chelsea Harbor is a major design center in London open to the trade only.
The new 3,500 square foot showroom is a departure from Crowson''s previous retail efforts in that it is a freestanding outlet directly owned and managed by Crowson. Crowson''s other shops are either leased departments in existing department stores, shop-in-shops in some cases, as well as floor/rack space in its existing dealer network which features Crowson as a key line or as one of the many brands offered by the independent dealer.
Crowson was recently in the news for its acquisition of Monkwell from the Cornwell Parker Group last August. ''Monkwell is generating a return already,'' Mooney said. ''We kept the same sales force and marketing staff but we brought the accounting and warehouse functions to Uckfield.''
Crowson said it would continue to search for further acquisitions in an effort to grow its business in a flat to declining market for European fabric converters. F&FI
