At New York Market Week, Fabricut's Newest Label is All the Rage

April 8, 2004

NEW YORK - The New York jobber market has been buzzing with gossip. High on the list is a new brand from Fabricut, the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based fabric wholesaler.

It plans to introduce a third line of fabric under its forthcoming Vervane label. This news was circulating in the New York market a few weeks ago.

Fabricut President David Finer is showing artwork for the new collection to his suppliers as he develops the new collection. Fabricut produces two other brands under the Fabricut and S. Harris labels.

It is well known that as the Chinese have driven down fabric prices, several wholesalers have sought to trade up their interior design customers. Kravet has fiercely promoted its high-end Lee Jofa brand, and Stout Brothers has introduced a top-level brand called Surroundings. The customer is seeing a general price erosion in the global market, one supplier said.

In other news, American Decorative Fabrics - the Chinese upholstery supplier owned by David Li - recently purchased Westgate Fabrics. Gary Stein, COO of ADF said, This purchase should even out our distribution, giving us greater control over our distribution.
