At 88 Litwack Celebrates 65th Year in Fabrics

August 18, 2003

NEW YORK — Jack Litwack, at 88, has logged 65 years in the fabrics business. He started his career in 1938 at his family jobbing business, New England Textile, Flamingo Home Fabrics Division, in downtown New York.

Today, he runs Jackson Enterprises, renting office space from a customer, Swavelle Mill Creek, a converter based at 295 Fifth Avenue. Jack started Jackson at the age of 75 as a sales agent, broker and consultant.

"I originally moved to Fifth Avenue from a downtown location in 1956 to begin a joint venture with Fred Richman, owner of Richloom Fabrics Group. Fred had a joint venture with Flamingo Fabrics.

New England went out of business in 1968 and Jack joined Richloom to start an export division, "which blossomed into a huge business," he said. "Richloom was one of the first American companies at Heimtextil. I must have logged a 1 ½ million miles working there for 25 years."

Jack works on a daily basis and has no plans to retire. He lives in New York near Lincoln Center with his wife Anita. They have 11 grandchildren, all living in California.
