EAST LONDON, South Africa — Alessandra Beltrame, a founder and guiding spirit of Castellano-Beltrame, a leading trimmings manufacturer here, passed away after losing a long battle with cancer on Saturday, August 9 at her East London home.

She was born in Italy on July 6, 1939 and raised in Lake Como, Italy. She moved to South Africa and founded Castellano Beltrame with her parents, Mario and Clotilde, and her husband Franco in 1965.

Today, Castellano Beltrame is one of the leading trimming manufacturers in the world. During the tremendous growth of the company, Alessandra was the design director and responsible for overseeing all product development until her passing.

She is survived by her husband Dr. Franco Beltrame, current chief executive; a son Vittorio who is involved in sales and marketing; and a daughter Claudia who manages the design process in East London. Both children became directors of the company in 2002. Claudia has two daughters Cristina and Olivia and her husband, Steven, is in charge of the IT department and general management. He is also a director of the company.

Many of Castellano Beltrame's customers have made donations to charities. Beltrame's favorite charities were Children Homes / Orphanages and Nursing Homes for the Old Age, both based in South Africa. The Beltrame family has also established a charity for the cancer foundation in South Africa.
