A Glimpse at Evteks 2008

May 9, 2008

ISTANBUL, Turkey - Baris Can Erol, who joined CNR in 2005 as a finance director, became the deputy managing director last May at an exciting time for Evteks. With association mergers, new concepts and construction on four new convention halls at the expo center, Erol explained to Fabrics & Furnishings International exactly what to look for at Evteks in the coming years.

What's exciting at Evteks this year?

This year we have a new concept — the trend area. We're working on it with the Exporter's Trade Association. We'll be bringing in international designers and people who will give speeches and seminars during the show. We've dedicated about 600 to 700 square meters to presenting new trends in home textiles. Also, though the profile of our exhibitors is similar to last year, we're going to try to separate the sectors like curtains, bathrooms and upholstery to make a clear cut between exhibitors in the halls.

The Home Textiles Industrialist's Association and the Home Textiles Businessmen's Association merged in February. What effect will this have?

Basically, they were separated as producers and resellers. This will now create synergy for the sector since they will act as a single body. When they sit in front of government officials, international associations and organizations, they'll be overcoming their past conflicts and coming together. As the fruits of our relationship with them, they'll be subsidizing visitors from Europe and the Americas.

What do you plan for the future of Evteks?

Evteks will continue being our biggest show. It's the biggest CNR has here, so we give it the most attention. With the associations merging, there's a synergy. The trend area is a product of this. For the future, the construction project we're trying to finalize will help us try to grow the show even more with the new halls. Four new halls are expected to open in 2009. That will provide us with extra space that can grow the show by almost 20 percent.
